There are certain times in one's life where he or she feels obligated to do anything and everything to make a better future for themselves, and the people around them. This is called being conscience. I'd say that every human being is conscience, although, there are a few exceptions (Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Joachim Kroll, etc...) I'd would say the majority of mankind is guided by a good heart, and a will to do good unto others. I mean, call me crazy, but even Hitler just wanted to make a better world for the people around him. Unfortunately, some people ignore other living beings (animals included) either out of ignorance, or a simple lack of empathy & compassion. Now, when it comes to a certain boiling point, the human race will band together to stop a certain presence of evil. (It's how we got rid of Hitler...remember?) But unless we are personally motivated, or we are ordered to do so by our superiors (parents, boss at work, government agency, etc...) well we tend to just let the world handle it's own problems and enjoy our own lack of them.
People starving in Africa? Meh... I just ate lunch so I'm pretty content. I'm pretty sure that's what starvin' marvin would have wanted me to do anyways.
Hey so there's widespread poverty and government abuse in North Korea! Yeah, but I was really looking forward to tonight's new sitcom, "How to keep your mind simulated with trivial crap about someone else's fantasy" by the creators of The Jersey Shore.
Oh your homeboy Ricky just got shot on the corner around the block? Well he's nothing but no-good trouble anyways. I make sure I stay away from Gangbangers.
Hey some 19-year old American just died while in the middle of a war zone, even though he disagreed with the principles of the conflict. Yup, well that's why I put a bumper sticker on my Toyota that reads "Support Our Troops" I'm sure thats what he would've really wanted.
So what's my point? My point is that we should do anything and everything to better our world, on a more consistent basis. Although some of us do good, there are always times where we like to destroy things. Whether we do it for a greater good, like imploding a building to make way for a better one, or just for fun, like breaking a glass bottle in an alleyway just to watch it break, or like shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die. we all participate in an ongoing battle between constructive and destructive forces.
I don't know what my future holds, but at the very least I know it will hold my death, and when that time comes, I want my tombstone to read "A man of progress" not "A man of regrets"
